The Beginner's Trio- Key for Summer Health and Wellness

The beginner's trio is a small kit with 5ml bottles of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint essential oils. IT is the perfect starter kit for a hesitant beginner on a budget. These literally are the essential essential oils to have on hand, because they can do so much to help you and support you! Whether used aromatically, topically or internally they will work in our body on a cellular level.

When we inhale essential oiIs the particles go straight to our limbic system, which controls our memory, emotions, hormones, autonomic nervous system, blood pressure, heart rate and more, which will have a quick physical and psychological effect in our body.

Lemon- The super cleaner!

Lemon is a bright, refreshing, uplifting essential oil. It is distilled by cold pressing the rind of the lemon. Remember what protects the plant, protects us, and lemon is one of the best examples of this.

Lemon has been found to break down plastics- if you have never seen this, you must try this!!!!! Little at home experiment- take a bit of Styrofoam (a piece of your medium dunkins cup) and place it on a plate and put a 2 or 3 drops of lemon essential oil on it...with in seconds the lemon essential oil will start to breaking down the plastic and with in minutes it will be pool of goo! How crazy is this!

So lesson to learn here:

1) If we put put 1-2 drops of lemon essential oil in our water daily, it will gently, and safely detoxify and break down the plastics in our body cells. DoTERRA Lemon essential oil is pure enough to be taken internally by adults.

2) Do Not Put Lemon Essential oil in a Plastic Water Bottle because it will slowly break it down and you will actually consume more plastic. While on the topic it is preferred, for our health to always consume beverages from glass or stainless steel. Even if you use a BPA free plastic bottle, the plastic of the bottle still leaches plastics into our body, Which is not good for us. Here are a few articles on this.

3) lemon is a brilliant cleaner for removing sticky substances- think stickers on a coffee table, gum in hair, residue on a bottle... you name it lemon oil will break it down.

Aromatically-Lemon essential oil when diffused will purify the air, brighten refresh and uplift a room and the mood in the room. One of my favorite blends to diffuse is lemon and rosemary in the kitchen. It smells so fresh and clean, it is uplifting and helps with focus. It is also key in almost every DIY cleaning recipe! I make an incredible furniture polish and all purpose cleaner with just 2 or 3 ingredients. Topically- When applying lemon oil topically, be sure to dilute it with a natural carrier oils. (coconut or olive oil are great carrier oils found in most homes) lemon can be used in DIY toners, moisturizers and washes, to brighten, purify and clean skin, but citrus oils can make the skin photosensitive, so make sure you use a good SPF after applying to skin or avoid the sun for 12hours- I often use it in my products at night rather than in the morning. It is also a good for supporting and regulating your bodies blood pressure (whether high or low) if you use lemon it will support your body to regulate your blood pressure. To do this you can inhale it, and put a 1-2 drops mixed with a quarter sized amount of carrier oil and massage it into your heart and the heart reflexology point on your left foot and hand.

Internally- As previously discussed a glass of water a day with a drop of lemon in it is both refreshing, uplifting, but will also gently detoxify your body. Recent research has also discovered that drinking a glass of lemon water in the morning helps support your brain and helps block stress hormones like cortisol from being released when you are in a stressful situation.

Modern Essentials- you can read about a specific oil, look up ailments and find what oils support your body, and there are many recipes for food as well as products. There is a recipe for lemon squares that is out of this world. Or a a drop to a homemade salad dressing, some lemonade or many other recipes!

Lavender- Is the universal, super useful oil! This is the number one oil to have in your home first aid kit. Lavender has natural antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, anti-histamine, anti-depressant, and sedative properties. When applied to burns, cuts and wounds it will clean and heal a wound faster than any ointment you would typically use. It is also wonderful in skincare products to sooth, heal and nourish the skin.

Aromatically- I diffuse lavender for the calming soothing environment it creates. I diffuse it almost every night to help my body prepare for sleep and to sleep soundly, but it also helps my husband not snore quite as much as he did before I started diffusing in our room at night. (honestly if I start the diffuser before he goes to bed, he often will barely snore, if I start it after he has fallen asleep and is snoring it takes a bit longer. But it does help and I find I do not sleep on the couch as much as I did before.) Diffusing lavender can also help reduce stress and anxiety. It is very calming to the mind.

Topically- Lavender can be applied to the skin neat (without dilution) but I still often dilute, both to make it go further, but also to ensure no sensitive reactions as my whole family has very sensitive skin. Dilution is actually a great thing, if an oil is applied neat to the skin it enters our blood stream in 30 seconds and will travel through our body for about 2 hours before it leaves our body. If we dilute the oil before application it actually moves slower through our body and takes longer to leave the body, so you might not need to reapply as often. I make a lovely body wash with just aloe, castile soap, water, lavender and roman chamomile essential oil. It is calming soothing to the skin and the mind. Safe for children and smells amazing! I also like to add a drop of lavender and lemon to bath salts for a relaxing and detoxifying bath.

Peppermint- Peppermint is an uplifting and invigorating oil! I love to smell it to feel alert and awake! It is excellent for opening our airways and sinuses- just one drop in your hands- rub your hands together and inhale and you will feel everything open up, even on the stuffiest day! Peppermint also supports our body digestive system, muscles, nervous respiratory and skin systems. When using peppermint topically it will also have a cooling sensation which can be pleasant for some and for others it can be a bit much, so again, less is more and dilution is key!

Aromatically- diffusing peppermint will create an alert, uplifting environment. Even just inhaling peppermint can ease a upset belly. When driving diffusing it will keep you alert and focused which is important.

Topically- massaging peppermint into a tight muscle with help it relax, A drop with a carrier oil on your belly will aid with digestion issues and heartburn. A drop applied to the temples or back of head will reduce the tension of a headache.

When applied to the bottoms of your feet or spine it will soothe your nerves and muscles and help you relate and feel rejuvenated.

Internally- I enjoy putting a drop in my water, it is refreshing and uplifting, it supports my digestion and tastes delicious!

Using all three oils together this summer:

Seasonal Distresses-When you diffuse lemon, lavender and peppermint, you actually can support your body through seasonal discomforts- the lavender is a natural anti-histamine, lemon is a purifying oil and peppermint supports our respiratory system, The three together are like magic!!! When I am feeling seasonal distress, I diffuse and it immediately helps. I also make a roller bottle of the three oils dilutes which I roll on my chest, and inhale from my hands and it helps greatly. Before I had these oils in my life I would have to take at least a few allergy pills in the spring and fall. Since then I have maybe taken 1!

Lavender and Peppermint Post Beach Day Soothing Spray- If you have spent a day in the sun and unfortunately received a bit of a burn, grab a spray bottle and full it with water, add a few drops of lavender and a few drops of peppermint and give it a shake then spray your body. The lavender will help heal and soothe the burn, while the peppermint cools, soothes and removes the heat! It is amazing and wonderful. Top it with some aloe to lock in moisture and your skin will thank you!

Anti-Creepy Crawly Spray- Peppermint and citrus oils together in a spray will keep spiders, ants and other unwanted bugs out of your house. I spray the perimeter of all rooms, windows and doorways once a month to keep all the creepy crawly creatures away! Works like a charm without hurting them.
