SKIN CARE TIPS FOR A NATURAL BEAUTY

Skin care is so important. And I truly believe it is imperative to care for your skin with organic, natural products that will balance and nourish for your skin so your natural beauty stands out!  I enjoy a few lines of products but I also love to make my own products as well.

As a DoTERRA Wellness Advocate, I was pleasantly pleased to discover all three of doTERRA's skincare lines are wonderful and their body products are amazing! I love that they offer clean products for hair, skin and body that I can trust and are easy to shop for.  I have used a few items from each line, and loved all these lines for their specific focuses.  The ingredients and the fact that the essential oils make them work well for their focused intention is really cool.

DoTERRA has 3 skincare lines:

  • HD Clear- Works to balance nourish acneic skin.

  • The Essential Skin Care Line-A basic skin care line (hydrates, soothes & fights aging concerns)

  •  Verage- This is a top of the line anti-aging skin care line.  This skin care line is so pure, you technically could eat it (don't think you would want to, but you could!)  The results from it are impressive!

As an esthetician, typically there is usually at least one product in every line that you don't like, but my absolute favorite skincare line is called Earth Harbor Naturals, and I literally love EVERYTHING they create!  Earth Harbor Naturals is a dream of all the things you want in a natural skincare line: 100% natural, nontoxic, certified cruelty-free, vegan,  ethical trade,  clinically proven & sustainable ingredients (all certified organic, non-GMO and/or wildcrafted), ocean nutrients, plant-based therapeutic-grade ingredients, food-grade and upcycled plant oils, scientifically-proven botanicals, zero-waste & 100% recyclable/reusable plastic-negative packaging with reclaimed ocean plastic, carbon negative offset, artisan small batches, & woman owned!!!

I also love to make some of my own products with easy, all natural ingredients.  I can teach you my secrets!

Here are some basic skincare steps to properly care for your skin, no matter what skincare line you use.  Please review and if you have questions, I am happy to help you.

Basic Skin Care knowledge...     Steps to properly care for your skin:
Daily Habits:

Wash, tone and moisturize 2x a day.

  • Pre-Wash: loosen dirt, makeup and grime of the day with a quick oil massage.  Using a nourishing oil- Extra Virgin Olive oil, Almond oil, Grapeseed Oil (it is lighter and less of a scent) or Avocado Oil pour a few drops into your hand with a drop of essential oil (I like lavender) and massage into your face and neck for a few seconds.   This will actually loosen up any excess dirt, oil and makeup, while also softening the skin. It is beneficial for all skin types and will not make an oilier skin oilier, it will actually help manage and balance the oil in the skin. Feel free to make a small bottle of oil mixed with an essential oil blend. (See Notes below on using essential oils)

  • Washing: Wet face and apply cleanser. Massage cleanser into face well, massaging in small circles for a few seconds. Be sure to be gentle with your skin.   Remove cleanser with warm water and a face cloth.

  • Toning:  Is very important because it returns skin to proper PH, which prevents the development of bacteria growth, and boosts hydration in the skin. Apply toner to a cotton ball and apply to face and neck.

  • Apply eye gel or cream to delicate eye area at least once a day.

What is the difference between gel and cream?

  • Eye gel: reduces puffiness and dark circles. Also hydrates skin.

  • Eye cream: adds moisture, prevents wrinkles.

    • To apply eye gel or cream:  Just dab a tiny amount under the eye and along the orbital bone (just under your eyebrow where you feel the bone), then gently tap and smooth into the skin, moving from inside edge of eye to outer edge of the eye.  Do not pull or tug this skin as it is very delicate.

  • Moisturizer/ Facial Oil: Important in locking in moisture (water) in the skin. It is very important for all skin types.  This will feed nutrients to the skin, nourish and hydrate skin.  Apply a small amount of cream and spread over face and neck.  (If using eye gel or cream apply that first and let set then apply moisturizer. )

Weekly Habits:

  • Exfoliate skin with a scrub once or twice a week:

Twice a week if skin is very oily/ acneic . Once a week for dry, sensitive or normal skin types.  Exfoliating more than twice a week will actually dry your skin out and your skin will start producing more oil because you are over exfoliating. (You do not want that!!!)

Exfoliating will remove excess dirt and built up dead skin cells, leaving healthy glowing skin.

  • After cleansing face, apply a scrub to face and VERY gently massage into face. Allow the scrub to set for a few minutes. Remove with warm water and face cloth. Follow with toner and moisturizer.

  • Apply a mask once a week to deeply nourish your skin.

A mask is very important to feed the skin nutrients it needs and drawing out impurities.  There are different masks to treat different skin conditions. Some are honestly even gentle enough that you could use them on a daily basis, but apply a mask at least once a week will keep your skin healthy and glowing!

  • After cleansing and exfoliating (optional) apply a mask to skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes.  Remove with a warm face cloth, and follow with toner and moisturizer

Notes on Using Essential Oils:

When using essential oils, I highly encourage you to investigate how pure your essential are.

70% of the essential oils in the marketplace contain synthetic, lab created oils, but are labeled 100% pure.  (A.K.A - Chemicals) This is why I work with doTERRA, they 3rd party test their oils before purchase from the distiller, they are transparent and publish the test results for all to access, and they run 8 additional tests in house to ensure the quality and purity.  To learn more, check out this article.
