Summer is Here...Time to Hit the Road on a Road Trip Adventure...How to survive your next Road trip

School is out, The kids are home, Time for some family fun and adventure. So load up the car and head to your summer adventure- could be camping in Maine, a trip to Cape Cod for a few days of beach time, a long trip to Washington DC or out west to National Parks... This year I am preparing for a fun road trip to Wisconsin with my four year old son, Husband and My Father... It is going to be a blast, but when packing, besides remembering bathing suits, rain jackets and maybe a warm layer, you have to bring your oils!!!! If I am going for a long trip often my whole wooden box will end up in the luggage, but sometimes your need to pare down to just the essentials. I always carry a small travel bag of oils in my purse, and when preparing for a road trip you will need to make sure you have specific oils with you in the car!

How to use oils on a road trip:

1) Diffuse in the car- there are car vent clips, electric diffusers that plug into the charging port, or just sprinkle a few drops on a tissue and place in a vent. I have even seen people make car diffusers with a clothes pin...you can just put the oil or the clothes pin or decorate it with some pom poms, felt, string or paint and then add the oil to clip or fabric and clip the clothes pin to a car vent. This could be a really fun pre-trip project for the kids, and they can each have their own clip!!!

Best Oils to Diffuse:

Balance- to promote a calm, grounded and centered environment

Wild Orange- to uplift, keep fears down and keep alert

Peppermint- to uplift and keep alert, also helps ease headaches

Balance and Wild Orange together- To both uplift while also keeping a calm environment.

Citrus Bliss- this special blend is a favorite because it smells great, makes everyone happy, is uplifting, and helps keep the driver alert. (this is my personal favorite- on my last trip to Toledo a few weeks ago my son and I had a fabulous 12 hr drive with no fights, breakdowns or crying...I can't help but think this oil helped a bit! )

Make sure you have at least one of these oils with you!

2) Emergency Kit Oils- there are specific oils and blends I keep on hand as my emergency kit- Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon,Digestzen & Deep Blue- rub or oil. Pasttense

Lavender-Helps clean and heal cuts, scrapes and burns. I always have it with me in case someone gets hurt. But it also serves as a calming, soothing, mood oils (to promote sleep or relaxation) and depending on how long you are traveling you might need to roll or apply this to at least one passenger to calm the crankiness and keep everyone relaxed and ease tension. Also if you are traveling with a nervous traveler (or pup)- apply lavender to them before you head out. It will relax and calm them, while also reducing their fears.

Peppermint- Helps keep the driver alert. Just open the bottle and take a big inhale to wake up, if you are feeling drowsy. I like to put a drop of peppermint in my water, because it tastes great, keeps me alert and makes me happy. Plus it keeps my belly happy too! (**remember- I only advise you use doTERRA essential oil internally, and only specific oils with supplement facts on their label can be used internally. You have to make sure they are 100% pure if you are taking internally, and doTERRA's CPTG (certified pure therapeutic grade) oils are the only oils with published third party testing to ensure the purity! (remember an oil can say 100% pure on the label and really be only 70% pure!!!

**Also only Adults should take oils internally!!!) A handy thing to bring with you, is a travel spray bottle with 10 drops lavender, 5 drops peppermint and filled with water. This is a wonderful after sun spray, should anyone get too much sun and need a bit of relief. The lavender heals the burn and the peppermint will take the heat out! AMAZING!!!!

Lemon- This is a great oil to diffuse or smell for the uplifting benefits, it is delicious in water, and it is a wonderful cleaner. Make your own wipes for the trip with either paper towels or old rags, water and a few drops of lemon oil (you can also add lavender if you like.) Then keep them in a closed container for the trip and pull out one to use when needed. Safe and non-toxic cleaning wipes for skin or counters. Also having lemon, lavender and peppermint on hand to diffuse if you experience any seasonal discomforts is key- why take an allergy pill when you can diffuse a few drops of these three oils and feel relief?! It is like magic!

Digestzen- This is a key emergency kit oil!!!! Digestzen helps ease any digestive discomfort, stomach pains, nausea, heartburn, gas, ect... Having this oil on a trip is key! If anyone is feeling any digestive discomfort take a drop with a carrier oil and massage it right on your belly, focusing where the pain or discomfort is, or apply the oil to the bottoms of your feet. In seconds you will feel ease and your body will be supported. This oil can also be take internally by adults, a drop under the tongue or in a bottle of water will also help support and ease tummy troubles.

Deep Blue (rub or oil)- The samples of deep blue rub are perfect for a roadtrip- you get a few applications out of one pouch and they are easy to slip in your purse or oil bag. Deep blue is especially good to have on hand for the driver whose most like to feel stiff and tight tension. A pea sized amount of rub will spread easily and take care of any issue.

I massage deep blue into achy muscles & bones. This blend actually reduces inflammation of bone, muscle and nerve!!! It is wonderful! If you tend to have nerve pain & inflammation, massage a drop of deep blue on the bottom of your feet daily, it will help support your body. Also this blend can be used to ease a headache. Just one small drop massaged into temples and back of neck and you will feel relief.

PastTense- The headache blend- This blend is one to have if you are prone to headache- it will knock a headache out of the park faster and safer than any aspirin (no stomach ulcers and other bad side effects!) The natural plant medicine gets to work and supports our bodies.

Mood Oils- Let's be honest, we all sometimes need out mood oils to keep a balanced, harmonious environment. Whether you have kids that get feisty and fresh or you know you get cranky after too much time in a closed space, then you will want to pack at least one powerful mood oil to have at the ready when someones inner dragon comes out of the cave!

In tune- This is one of my absolute favorite mood oil blends, My son loves it, and it helps keep him focuses and pleasant. A quick drop to the back of his neck when he is in fight mode, will rapidly reel in the beast and bring my sweet guy back.

Liquid Xanax- This is a homemade blend of equal parts balance and serenity! I love this oil blend for everyone, it supports our bodies with stress management. It helps keeps everyone calm, helps you deal with stress without freaking out, and just allows you to feel calm and in control even at the toughest moments. This blend also helps ease tension and stress so it does help with headaches as well!!

Cheer- AKA liquid Sunshine~ This is the happiest oil blend! It just smells great and makes me completely happy. Always good to have on hand to inhale deeply or wear as a perfume!

How to Use the Mood Oils:

When using the mood oils, apply to wrists, back of neck & heart or inhale from the bottle. Take a a few deep breathes, let go of tension and feel the instant mood adjustments as these oils work with our limbic system and support our bodies.

Cleaning and Sanitizing- Let's not forget our On Guard Sanitizing Mist for after trips to a rest stop or before snacking in the car. Love this spray and always keep a bottle on hand in the console. I also have been known to spray hotel rooms with On Guard spray to sanitize and freshen the room when we first arrive.

Terrashield- Make sure you bring your terrashield- the outdoor blend to protect against mosquitoes and other bugs whether you plan to take a hike, play in a park or just enjoy an evening outside. This blend is an all natural bug repellent and it works so well! A few sprays any you are good to go, and it is safe for Adults, Kids and Pets!!! Safe, non-toxic & effective! Who doesn't love that!
